Medicine-based pain management therapy

For chronic illnesses, medicine-based pain management therapy is the most important element of pain treatment. We distinguish between different groups of medicines that can be used for different types of pain.

The group of NSARs (non-steroidal anti-rheumatics) is a very large group of different medicines that are used for light to medium-intensity pain. They have nothing to do with cortisone, and all have a pain-relieving, anti-inflammatory effect. Their side effects are also similar in that they injure the gastric mucosa and can cause stomach ulcers and bleeding. This can cause a stroke or heart attack. These medicines also increase the likelihood of bleeding, and above all damage the kidneys and liver, which can lead to organ failure. Under no circumstances should these medicines be taken for several months without consulting your doctor. We will put you on the medication that is appropriate for you.

Another group are the opioids; these are divided into weak and strong opioids. These substances are related to morphine, and either occur naturally or can be created in a laboratory. They are not anti-inflammatory, they are solely analgesic, or pain-relieving. They also have an effect on the brain, and typically have side effects such as itching, constipation, tiredness, nausea and vomiting. Morphine, in particular, breaks down into substances that damage the kidneys. If use is not supervised, these medicines can make almost anyone addicted. We would be more than happy to advise you.

There is another group of medicines that is very diverse – the adjuvants, which modify the effects of other painkillers. Many medicines such as anti-depressants, anti-convulsants, anaesthetics and cortisone are important, indispensable concomitant drugs in pain management therapy that strengthen and complement the effects of painkillers. We use this medication very frequently to help our patients. Another group of medicines we use are plant-based (phytopharmacological), and have an anti-inflammatory and analgesic effect.

We also use some homeopathic remedies. We adapt to the needs of our patients. We collaborate with an experienced alternative health specialist so that we are able to offer expert advice in this regard, too. We are open to all forms of therapy. The painkillers are available in many forms: drops, liquids, capsules, tablets, pastilles, plasters, suppositories, injection solutions, sprays or inhaler solutions.

We would be more than happy to advise you and prescribe the appropriate therapy.
